Is my authority still active?
Updated 2026-10-10. For carriers and owner-operators.
FMCSA moved registration to its new Motus system in 2026, and some carriers lost active status without doing anything wrong. In August, Motus deleted a courier's BOC-3 (process agent) filing without notice; later that month inspectors at an Oklahoma weigh station declared the truck's operating authority inactive. CCJ's analysis found 143 authority records listed as inactive despite a BOC-3 on record (CCJ, Sep 10, 2026). In June FMCSA paused some USDOT deactivations because of Motus technical issues (Overdrive).
Check it now
Run the free Authority Health Check on your own USDOT or MC number. You'll see your authority status, the BOC-3 FMCSA has on file, your insurance on file, your MCS-150 due month and any notice served, each with the FMCSA file it came from and FMCSA's own page to fix it.
Get told the day it changes
Add your own number to a free watchlist. Carrier Ledger re-reads FMCSA's files every day and alerts you when your authority status changes, your BOC-3 disappears, an insurance cancellation is filed or a suspension notice is served, so you can fix it before a broker or an inspector finds it.
We never file anything for you and never charge for FMCSA filings. Fixes go through FMCSA directly. Watch out for letters and look-alike sites that charge for filings FMCSA takes free (CCJ). If something is wrong, start at fmcsa.dot.gov/registration. Check and watch my authority free
